Flood Relief Activity in Assam

In the recent devastating flood in Assam more than thirty (30) lakh people were badly affected in 28 districts. The severity of the flood is so intense that because of the flood thousand of families were forced to take shelter in high land like highway, side of Railway track and other highground, where in they had to live in make shift camps
leaving the village behind. The total number of flood-hit people in the State today stood at around 53,52,107 in
4,128 villages under 103 revenue circles of 28 districts. The total crop area affected by flood stood today to be 2, 12,122.74 hectares. However, the cumulative figure concerning the flood-related death during this flood season shot up to more than forty.

The ASDMA flood report stated that many districts were still reeling under floodwaters include – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Karimganj.

With the objective of Relief and Rehabilitation, Seva Bharati, Purbanchal (SBP) voluntary organization actively working in flood affected areas of Assam. With its dedicated members, the SBP organized various relief camps in several districts of Assam with support of the local people, organisation and their donations. The relief camp includes Free Medical Camp, Free Goods distribution camp (like kitchen materials), Cleanness and Hygiene product distribution and also provide helping hands towards flood affected people and their families in rescue operation.

A total of 22 nos of Medical Camps organized with several doctors with support of National Medicos Organisation (NMO). Total 3297 nos of individuals benefitted in Morigaon, Nalbari, Dhubri, Barpeta, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Jorhat and Majuli. For cleanness and hygiene, Seva Bharati, Purbanchal distributed Phynol and Bleaching Powder to the families in flood affected areas. There 1500 liters of Phenyl and 1100 Kg of Bleaching powder distributed so far.

Free Goods distribution camps organized in various flood affected places in Assam. The Goods includes 50,000 Liters of drinking water, 10,000 Cartons of Biscuit. Along with these materials some other goods and materials such as rice, pulses, cloths, mosquito coils etc. were distributed.
